17 Patients Die as Covid-19 Cases Rise

  • Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe on Sunday, March 20, announced that 747 people had tested positive for Covid-19, out of a sample size of 5,145 tested in the last 24 hours.

    At the same time, Kagwe announced that 17 patients succumbed to the disease. 7 of them have occurred in the last 48 hours while 10 are late death reports from facility record audits that have occurred on diverse dates. This brings the cumulative fatality to  2,011. 

    The total confirmed positive cases now stand at 120,910. The total tests conducted so far are 1,414,865. From the cases, 710 are Kenyans while 37 are foreigners. 396 are males and 351 are females.

    The CS further noted with concern media reports to the effect that the vaccination deployment plan targeting frontline workers as is policy is being abused. Kagwe clarified that the vaccination plan remains intact and targets all persons resident in Kenya including those serving in the diplomatic corps.

    Meanwhile, 114 patients have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours. Total recoveries now stand at 89,622.

    There are 889 patients currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 2,545 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

    121 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 32 of whom are on ventilator support and 86 on supplemental oxygen. 18 in the High Dependency Unit ( HDU ).

     Another 59 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen with 41 of them in the general wards.

    In terms of Sub County distribution; the 524 cases in Nairobi are from Westlands (56), Dagoretti North (47), Kamukunji and Lang’ata (37) cases each, Roysambu (33), Kibra and Ruaraka (31) cases each, Embakasi South (30), Embakasi West (29), Makadara (28), Embakasi Central (26), Embakasi East and Starehe (25) cases each, Kasarani (24), Mathare (23), Dagoretti South (22), Embakasi North (20).
