Nationwide Curfew Order Set For Review

A nationwide curfew order that has been running since the COVID-19 Pandemic entered the country, is set for review today, July 29, 2021.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is on a UK State visit is expected to issue new directives in line with the Country’s COVID-19 situation.

As of 28th July 2021, Kenya’s total number of confirmed cases stands at 199,941 from a total of 2,109,581 cumulative tests conducted since March.

So far, the country is battling a delta variant that has put the economy of the country in jeopardy.

The positivity rate is currently at 18.0%, dwindling hopes of reopening the country past curfew hours.

A total of 1,386 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 3,686 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

According to Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, 174 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 41 of whom are on ventilatory support and 82 on supplemental oxygen. 51 patients are under observation.

Another 433 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 387 of them in general wards and 46 in High Dependency Units (HDU).

Among the hardest. hit industries by the containment measures are the tourism sector.

Hotels have been converted into other businesses and touring companies caving into daily expenses.

As for citizens, many employed by the industry have resorted to odd jobs to cater to their daily needs.
