Arsenal To Extend Xhaka Contract After Roma Deal Flop

Arsenal are expected to give Granit Xhaka a new contract this summer, extending the Swiss captain’s stay at the club beyond the emotionally charged five years at the midfield.

Arsenal have come to the conclusion that keeping him could be a cost-effective solution during what they hope will be a busy window.

According to the Athletic, Arsenal were considering selling the midfielder after his strong performance for Switzerland at Euro 2020.

However, after weighing the cost of replacing the 28-year-old against the on- and off-field talents he brings to the club, Emirates executives are said to have chosen not to let him go.

The Gunners have already turned down a £13 million proposal from Roma.

And the 98-cap international almost revealed his desire to quit at the end of last month.

“Arsenal know what I want to do,” he remarked. It’s rather lovely here [in Rome].”

However, Roma’s initial offer fell short of Arsenal’s asking price for Xhaka, who is under contract until 2023.
