Hon Lady Justice Monica Mbaru, an Employment and Labour Relations Judge, has issued orders against the County Government of Kitui and Governor Charity Ngilu.
In the ruling, Kitui County doctors will be paid their full dues, which the county had stopped paying since July 2021.
The injunction prevents doctors from being fired or having their postgraduate training or pay suspended awaiting the outcome of the hearing.
The petition and judicial review will be combined. In addition, the contempt case will be heard first.
Within seven days, the respondents, including the County government, will file their answering affidavit.
The union is also concerned about frustrations from various county administrations, which have impacted public hospital operations.
The counties of Laikipia, Kirinyaga, and Kitui, according to Dr. Aby Mwachi, national chairman of KMPDU, are the most antagonistic to medical practitioners.
These counties, according to Dr. Mwachi, have abandoned their responsibility in the healthcare sector.
Other accusations include the cancellation of doctors’ risk allowances and a lack of personal protective equipment to deal with Covid-19 cases.
