Kenya-born former Australian Senator, Lucy Gichuhi is stranded with the dead body of her late daughter in Australia after failing to raise funds to fly the body to Kenya.
The former lawmaker failed to raise Ksh.3.2 million to fly the body of her daughter, Peris Wanjiru who passed on August 26th. The cause of death of the 33-year-old was not communicated by the family.
Due to financial deficiencies, Gichuhi’s family opened an online fundraising account. The family asked the public to help them raise the funds to enable them to fly the body to Kenya for a befitting send-off.
“Due to the current covid restrictions in place that have resulted in decreased air travel to and out of Australia, the cost of this process is overwhelming to the family and thus the appeal to you for your kind support,” the family said on the online fundraising platform.
From the fundraising, the former senator managed to raise Ksh Ksh41,000.
