In both Laikipia and Baringo counties, the multi-agency security team proceeded to carry out initiatives targeted at resolving problems that contribute to unrest among pastoralist communities.

Major General Stephen Otieno, the General Officer Commanding Border Security Command (GOC BSC), along with 2nd Brigade Commander Brigadier Peter Assava and Commanding Officer 5th Kenya Rifles Lieutenant Colonel Dennis Obiero, visited Chesitet in Kapedo and Churo in Baringo County on the second day of his tour in the region.

“The main problem that affects our people is lack of water and pasture. This makes them move long-distance to neighbor counties resulting to conflict.”

“Kenya Defence Forces will build for us dams that will collect water during the rainy season for use in times of drought and this will help reduce movements for water end conflict in amongst us,” said Mr. Joseph Lokoringiro, a resident.

“I Have had your problem and I know water shortage remains your main challenge. The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) will construct modern fenced dams in those sites with tanks and designated points for you and the animals,” said Major General Otieno.

At AIC Churo Girls secondary school, residents identified security roads as their main concern and the GOC BSC assured them of KDF’s commitment to upgrade the old Kacheptuya-Marram-Kasilangwa-Nachurur road to murram standards.

This will aid the movement of people and security officers towards securing the area.
