Former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) boss Sam Nyamweya has welcomed the government’s decision to order for an audit of the Football Kenya Federation accounts.

This is after the sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed directed the sports registrar to undertake an audit of the FKF accounts.

Nyamweya, through a text sent to to the press, said the move have been long overdue given the financial mess that has seen the Kenya football governing body failing to account for the money accorded to them.

He called upon the registrar of sports to probe his successor Nick Mwendwa on the sh244 milion meant for the 2019 Afcon preparation and the Sh 120 million from FIFA meant for the purchase of the OB Van.

The former veteran boss also called for the investigation of Sh100 million from FIFA to support clubs during the Covid-19 pandemic period.

“As stakeholders we have been crying for action to be taken by the government. We have petitioned FIFA and CAF to act. And now we thank CS Amina for the directive,” he said.

Nyamweya further called the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) and Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to hasten their investigation over the alleged misappropriation of funds.

On Thursday, the High court dismissed Mwendwa’s attempt to stop the investigation over allegations of Misappropriation of funds at Kandanda House.

Mwendwa, through his lawyer Tom Ojienda had moved to court to stop the DCI and DPP from arresting him.

However, Mwendwa’s pleading were dismissed by Justice James Mukua: “I therefore find that the petitioners’ prayer for an order of permanent and injuction prohibiting the DCI and DPP summoning, investigating, Charging or prosecuting the petitioner with respect to the financial management of FKF is not Justified in the circumstances of this case,” ruled Justice Makau.
