Murang’a governor Mwangi Wa Iria now says that he doesn’t mind having ODM leader Raila Odinga as his running mate for the 2022 presidential race.

The second term county boss is among the leaders who have declared interest in succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta and says that he won’t drop his bid.

Speaking on Tuesday, he added that he is also not interested in being any other person’s running mate, adding that it is those people who should back him.

He listed ODM leader Raila Odinga and Wiper party boss Kalonzo Musyoka as those are free to be his deputy if they want to be part of his 2022 victory.

He spoke to the media at the Ihura Stadium, where he expressed confidence in scooping the Mt Kenya vote, hoping that this will ultimately hand him the seat.

“I would not mind having either ODM leader Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka or Musalia Mudavadi as my running mate. We have the numbers and this is what counts in elections and I am hopeful that I will capture a huge chunk of the votes here,” the leader is quoted by the People Daily

Interestingly, all the three leaders have declared interest in the same seat and are seen as bigger and most likely to even beat him in his own Mt Kenya turf.

The governor also sought to clear the air, saying that all the top leaders claiming to be making inroads into Central Kenya are wrong or are lying.

He informed that the region has its owners and will not be fought over by politicians from outside, adding that he will not let it be taken over by others.

He stated that he will be representing the region, which is seen as not having a serious candidate, in the race, further accusing the others; apparently Raila, Mudavadi and Deputy President William Ruto of seeking the Mt Kenya vote in a disrespectful manner.

“There are people who have been coming to this region claiming that the residents have already agreed to support them are lying. Mt.Kenya region has its owners and I won’t sit back and watch a few individuals trample on us like we don’t exist,” he said.

But his remarks come at a time when area leaders are alligning themselves with the others; Ruto and Raila, with close to no one being seen in his corner.

The two, who are considered the two horses of 2022, are also considered the people who will share the mountain vote among themselves during the poll
