Charity Ngilu: William Ruto Stole Thwake Dam Billions

Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu slammed Deputy President William Ruto for allegedly stealing billions of taxpayer’s money set aside to build Thwake dan in Makueni county.

Speaking on Friday, November 12, in Makueni County during Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja campaign, Ngilu said DP Ruto was the root cause of the project derailing by inflating the original cost of the project.

“Thwake dam project was KSh 13 billion, but he (William Ruto) was fighting for it to be KSh 39 billion. That is the money being carried in sacks every day as he walks around,” the Kitu county boss said.

The county chief further said the proceed of corruption from Thwake dam is what the former Eldoret North MP is using to woo unsuspecting electorates through handouts.

Ngilu blamed DP Ruto for failure to execute the laid down projects by President Uhuru Kenyatta while pushing for his own political interests.

Thwake dam project was meant to end water shortage in Ukambani and its environs while at the same time providing electricity. The project is to be implemented in four phases and undertaken on 9,158 acres.

The first phase of the project was co-funded by the government of Kenya and the African Development Bank.

In the same, rally, Ngilu castigated DP Ruto for what she termed lies packaged as campaign promises.

“I am shocked when I see this guy (William Ruto). I always switch off. When he appears on Citizen TV, I wonder what is this. I switch off until he is done,” said governor Ngilu.
