IG Mutyambai Cautions Kenyans Ahead of Christmas

  • Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai has cautioned Kenyans against travelling ahead of the Christmas festivities.

Speaking during a press briefing on Monday, December 20, Mutyambai anticipated an increase in movement of people across the Country which he warned could increase the spread of Covid-19.

Therefore, he asked Kenyans to follow Covid-19 protocols to avoid a surge in the number of cases.

“If you must move, move with caution but also make merry where you are in order to avoid serious health issues in January,” he stated.

In addition, the IG stated that NPS had embraced the multi-sectoral policing approach and put in place stringent measures to maintain law and order.

He stated that the service had deployed adequate security personnel and enhanced patrols to forestall any security threats.

“To this end, I appreciate the gesture by the Commissioner General Prisons Service for augmenting our strength with an additional 3,000 prison officers,” he continued.

Mutyambai further directed all police officers who are currently on leave to resume duty with immediate effect.

The public was asked to remain vigilant during the festivities and support the police by reporting any suspicious activities to the nearest post or station.

“I wish to reiterate that the National Police Service remains committed to the safety and security of all citizens and residents of Kenya and encourages all persons to continue cooperating with the police as they enforce the law and the various health protocols as set out by the Ministry of Health especially in the wake of the Omicron variant of COVID-19,” he said.

In conclusion, Mutyambai wished all police officers and the general public a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2022.
