In this multiplex of the 21st day of Ligue 1, AS Monaco made short work of Clermont (4-0) to take fifth place. The RCSA reversed the trend against Montpellier (3-1), while FC Metz performed well by winning in Reims (1-0). Otherwise, FC Lorient and Angers SCO drew (0-0).
A few minutes after the heavy defeat of the Girondins de Bordeaux against Stade Rennais (0-6), the 21st day of Ligue 1 continued this Sunday with the traditional 3 p.m. multiplex. On its lawn at the Stade Louis-II, AS Monaco (7th, 30 pts) notably hosted Clermont Foot 63 (15th, 18 pts). The objective was simple for the Rock club: win to get closer to the top 5 but also to the podium. The CF63 wanted to move away from the red zone. Back after contracting Covid-19, Ben Yedder started on the bench but the Asemists did not need him to make a difference. After 2 minutes of play, Diop also obtained a penalty but the referee refused it after watching the slow motion.
But the ASM began to unfold just before the break. Well served by Jean Lucas, Diop scored by winning his face-to-face with Djoco (45th + 2, 1-0). Recently appointed coach of the Principality club, Philippe Clément launched Ben Yedder at the break, and the number 10 showed up quickly. After a goal on a pass from Caio Henrique (55th, 2-0), the international tricolor did it again seven minutes later from the penalty spot, which he himself had obtained (62nd, 3-0). The Brazilian side even went there with his goal afterwards (83rd, 4-0). At home, AS Monaco therefore put on a show and won easily to take fifth place. Clermont found himself sixteenth in the standings.
Superb operation for the Garnets!
Because if AS Monaco finds itself in the top 5 after its victory, it is also thanks to the result of the match between RC Strasbourg Alsace and Montpellier HSC. Sixth (31 pts) before the start of the multiplex, the Héraultais were indeed moving on the lawn of the Strasbourgeois (8th, 29 pts). With Mollet’s achievement at the start of the game at La Meinau, Olivier Dall’Oglio’s team thought they would win 1-0, but the severe expulsion of Wahi (66th) changed a lot of things and Waris equalized for the RCSA (77th, 1-1). Behind, Thomasson (84th, 2-1) and Gameiro (86th, 3-1) offered victory to their team. Suddenly, the MHSC found itself in eighth place, just behind its opponent of the day who rose a small rank. But there were not only matches at the top of the table this Sunday.
At Stade Auguste-Delaune, Stade de Reims (14th, 24 pts) and FC Metz (19th, 16 pts) had an appointment. Thanks to the only achievement of the match scored by Niane (61st, 0-1), the Garnets prevailed by the smallest of margins to climb to fifteenth place and therefore breathe a little easier. The SDR remained in fourteenth place. Finally, on the Moustoir lawn, FC Lorient (17th, 17 pts) and Angers SCO (11th, 26 pts) left each other back to back (0-0). A rather satisfactory result for the Scoists after spending almost the entire game at ten against eleven following the red card received by Doumbia in the 14th minute.
