Teargas, Chaos at Ruto’s Embakasi Rally

  • Chaos erupted on Sunday, January 16, during Deputy President William Ruto’s Rally at the Jacaranda Grounds in Embakasi East.

Videos seen by Kenyans.co.ke showed a section of the crowd engaged in running battles forcing police officers to lob teargas to disperse a rowdy crowd.

This was after a group of rowdy youth attempted to disrupt the rally, chanting that they wanted to be addressed by area member of Parliament, Babu Owino.

“We do not want money, we want Babu. We do not want money, we want baba (Raila Odinga),” the youth chanted.

Officers from the Anti-Riot Police unit were deployed to restore calm at the grounds after which the rally continued.

While addressing the crowd, Ruto blamed Raila for the pandemonium witnessed.

“Mr Kitendawili shame on you for organising these young men to pelt stones yet you are enjoying yourself,” the DP claimed.

He further declared that he would not be intimidated by such events which were nothing more than sideshows.

“I want to tell our competitors, those who have a history of causing chaos. Those who like mobilizing youth to pelt stones and swear in themselves, we will not be intimidated,”

Earlier during the day, Ruto attended a church service at PCEA Kware in Embakasi South.

He was accompanied by a number of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) aspirants including ousted Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi, Margaret Wanjiru, Millicent Omanga and Smith Mwatia (Rufftone).
