Kiraitu Hits Out at Raila, Days After Attending Sagana 3

  • Meru County Governor Kiraitu Murungi has continued to give mixed signals in the August presidential race – even after conspicuously being part of the Sagana Three declaration that endorsed ODM Leader Raila Odinga’s candidature.

On Saturday, February 26, hit out at Raila’s campaign agenda that seeks to give the vulnerable people in Kenya a Ksh6,000 stipend.

Speaking in Isiolo County, the Governor noted that Ruto and Raila were cut from the same cloth as they were making unattainable promises to Kenyans during his campaigns.

He also poured cold water on Deputy President William Ruto’s plan to inject Ksh100 billion shillings to help uplift greengrocers and the youth who have been living from hand to mouth through his bottom-up economic model.

“There are some who are going around claiming that if they ascend to power, they will give each family Ksh6,000. Others are saying that they will give out Ksh100 billion to uplift the youth and greengrocers. Please spare us that talk,” the Meru County boss stated.

Kiraitu questioned where the two leaders who are eyeing to take over the leadership mantle from Uhuru would get the money from and why they would not use the current revenue generation systems to better the lives of Kenyans

“Who has that kind of money in their pocket? Where are they getting it from? For my case, I will only promise to use the taxes that we collect from you to use for projects,” Kiraitu noted

He noted that leaders should not further stretch the country’s debt but instead use devolution to collect revenue from the country and appropriately allocate counties’ funds using a formula that would see everyone benefit from the same.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader on numerous occasions has declared that his plan was workable. Raila claimed that he will generate revenue by sealing the loopholes through which money is lost.

He added that having served in government in the past, he knew his way around sourcing funds for various government projects.

Kiraitu declared that DEP, christened the ‘Mbus’ party, will neither be working with the Azimio la Umoja nor Ruto’s the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in the August 9 General Election.
