Traffic Advisory Issued on Section of Mombasa Road

  • The County Government of Machakos has issued a traffic advisory ahead of the Azimio La Umoja rally scheduled to take place in the county today, Saturday, February 5.

In a statement, Machakos Governor, Alfred Mutua, advised motorists to expect heavy traffic and delays as he hosts the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, Raila Odinga, and other leaders.

Mutua noted that a section of Mombasa Road near the Namanga interchange will be affected by the heavy traffic expected. To avert a huge traffic snarl up, Mutua advised motorists to take another route leading to Tuskys through the Kenya Meat Commission (KMC) depot upon reaching the Namanga interchange.

The route will lead them to Mavoko and later rejoin Mombasa Road at the U-turn after the Steel Plant in Athi River.

“Motorists are advised that upon reaching the Namanga interchange, kindly take to Namanga Road to Tuskys  through KMC and back to join Mombasa Road, immediately at the U-turn after Steel Plant,” Mutua stated.

He further noted that Mavoko traffic police alongside traffic marshalls from the county will be on standby to advise motorists where possible and ensure smooth flow of traffic.

“Mavoko traffic police and our county traffic marshalls are coordinating the traffic to ensure smooth flow,” Mutua added.

Raila is expected to lead the Azimio La Umoja troops to a day-long rally in Machakos and the Lower Eastern region.

This is part of a series of rallies scheduled by the former Prime Minister who is seeking to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta as the country’s fifth Head of State.

He will be hosted by Governor Mutua and his Kitui and Makueni counterparts Charity Ngilu and Kivutha Kibwana respectively.

Jubilee Party, which also joined Azimio La Umoja, is conducting rallies in different parts of the country before it joins ODM in a national convention to make a unified declaration ahead of the August 9 General Election.
