NSE Daily Equity Turnover Rises 77% to Kes 859.6 Million

The Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) recorded a 77% rise in daily equity turnover during today’s trading session to Kes 859.6 million against the kes 193 million posted during the previous trading session.

The number of shares traded rose to 20 million during today’s trading session compared to the 7 million shares posted during Wednesday’s trading session.

The NSE All-Share Index declined 2.19 points to close at 155.74 followed by the NSE 20 Share Index which shed 6.29 points to settle at 1846.74 Consequently, the NSE 25 Share Index declined 27.75 points ending the day at 3565.06

The Derivatives Market had a total of 17 contracts valued at Kes.550,000 transacted in today’s trading session.

NSE Gainers and Losers

Umeme Plc led the gainers during today’s session gaining 5.65% to close at kes 7.10, followed by I&M Group holdings which was up 4.50% to kes 20.90, Williamsons tea which gained 3.45% to kes 135.00 per share followed by Diamond Trust Bank which was up 2.61% closing the day at 59.00 per share.

East Africa Portland was the biggest loser during today’s trading session shedding 5.22% to kes 6.54 per share, followed by Liberty Kenya which lost 3.58% to kes 5.92 per share, Kenya power which was down 2.96% to kes 1.31 per share, followed by Home Afrika which lost 2.70% to close the day at kes 0.36 per share.

The Banking Sector had shares worth Kes.602M transacted which accounted for 70.07% of the day’s traded value. KCB Group was the day’s main feature with 7M shares valued at Kes.319M changing hands between Kes.43.50 and Kes.44.25. Stanbic Holdings moved 2M shares valued at Kes.256M and closed at Kes.103.00. Equity Group Holdings down 0.49% to Kes.50.50 moved 258,000 shares valued at Kes.13M.

The Bond market had bonds worth Kes.2.9Bn transacted.
