NSE Equity Turnover rises 52.4% to KSh 320M

The Nairobi Securities Exchange(NSE) posted a daily equity turnover of KSh 320 Million from the previous KSh 210 Million, an increase of 52.4%

East Africa Cables was the day’s top gainer, its share price rising 9.00% from KSh 1.00 to KSh 1.09, while the worst performer was Car& General, which slid 9.685 from KSh 62.00 to KSh 56.00.

Available data shows that the NSE 20 share Index was down 1.58 points to stand at 1855.86. All Share Index NASI shed 0.31 points to settle at 157.42. The NSE 25 Share Index lost 9.06 points to settle at 3567.79.

The Derivatives Market registered activity in the Safaricom Single Stock Futures contract expiring on 16th March 2023, trading 21 contracts valued at KSh 783,000 at a price of KSh37.29, against a closing price of KSh35.05 posted by Safaricom in the spot market.

The Banking Sector had shares worth KSh 66.6M transacted, which accounted for 20.81% of the day’s traded value.

Equity Group Holdings moved 845,000 shares valued at KSh41.7M between KSh49.00 and KSh49.80. KCB Group, down 0.58% to KSh43.05, moved 281,000 shares valued at KSh12M. 

Standard Chartered Bank, unchanged at KSh143.50, moved 67,000 shares valued at KSh9.65M.

The Energy & Petroleum sector had shares worth KSh 20.96M transacted & accounted for 6.55% of the day’s traded value. 

KenGen traded 5M shares valued at KSh18.6M between KSh3.59 and KSh3.67. Kenya Power & Lighting, down 0.66% to KSh1.51, moved 1M shares valued at KSh1.6M.

The Manufacturing & Allied sector had shares worth KSh 50M transacted & accounted for 15.75% of the day’s traded value. E.A Breweries moved 332,000 shares worth KSh 49.9M at a relatively stable price of KSh150.00.

Safaricom was the day’s main feature, with 4.9M shares valued at KSh173M changing hands between KSh34.90 and KSh35.40; this represented 54.08% of the day’s traded value.

Exchange-Traded Funds

The New Gold ETF moved 3,000 units valued at KSh6M and closed at KSh2,040.00; this represented 1.98% of the day’s traded value.

The Bond market had bonds worth Kes.6.4Bn transacted.
