Grandpa Records founder cleared to contest for Kibra seat

Grandpa Records founder and Chief Executive Noah Yusuf, alias Refigah on Thursday received his nomination certificate from the Democratic Action Party Kenya (DAP-K) to vie for the Kibra parliamentary seat.

He received his certificate as he was not opposed by anyone.

After receiving his certificate, the former Grandpa boss who retired from the industry last year said that it was time to officially start the journey of liberating the people of Kibra.

“We officially received our DAP-K nomination certificate to signify a new beginning full of hope to the great people of Kibra. On that note, we take this opportunity to thank my family, our friends, supporters, and the silent majority who cheered me on to offer myself as your Member of Parliament, a call I have humbly accepted,” he said.

Refigah, one of the few Nubians born and raised in Kibra, added that he will commit to discussing issues and not opponents plus, “tackle our people’s problems and not discuss our opponent’s personalities and to only advance the interest of Kibra constituency with the aim of improving our people’s social welfare.”

He also aims to deliver to the people of Kibra irrespective of their religion, tribe, or political inclination. This is because, as people of Kibra, they are known to speak in unison which is a great asset that they must continue investing in and enjoying.

Rafigah who runs a foundation called Simama na Kibra which feeds destitute families and helps widows to start small-scale businesses said it is important to note that the journey has only begun and the major work lies between now and August 9, 2022, when the general elections will be held.

The seat is currently held by Imran Okoth, of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) who was elected into office through a by-election on 8 November 2019.

The constituency has five wards – Sarang’ombe, with the highest number of registered voters at 30,754, Woodley/Kenyatta Golf Course (28,066), Makina (25,695), Laini Saba (17,455) while Lindi has 16,688.
