Nike have revealed the home and away kits that the Colchoneros will wear throughout the 2022-2023 season.

Two birds with one stone. In the greatest discretion, Nike and Atlético de Madrid have decided to reveal the identity of the new jerseys that will be worn by Diego Simeone’s players, but also by the women’s team, during the 2022-2023 financial year, as well. both at the Wanda Metropolitano and far from the Madrid enclosure. Like last summer, the comma brand presented several tunics at the same time.

The Manzanares in the spotlight for the home kit

Unlike the home kit designed a year ago by Nike for the Colchoneros, which was intended to be more modern to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the current name of the club from the Spanish capital and the 20th anniversary of the collaboration between the two entities, we find a simpler design for this new year 2022-2023.

Atlético’s new home jersey actually draws its inspiration from the Manzanares River. This river crossing Madrid, which is a tributary of the Tagus, especially borders the former stadium of the residents of the Wanda Metropolitano, the Vicente Calderon. The presence of vertical curves, on the traditional red and white bands still in place, is therefore no coincidence and recalls the contours of Manzanares. Otherwise, the visual aspect of this new tunic remains generally classic, even at the level of the neck or the sleeves, which do not present anything particular.

A sober jersey on the outside

Classic is also the term we could use to describe Atlético de Madrid’s new away kit. Equipment supplier to the Spanish club since 2001, and until 2026 for the moment, Nike has accustomed Colchoneros fans to designing different colored shirts each year for creations worn outside.

This new outfit is adorned with a dominant dark blue, mixed with two different touches of light blue on the collar and the edges of the sleeves. The club crest of Antoine Griezmann, Geoffrey Kondogbia or Yannick Carrasco is also embroidered in a very light blue, as is the swoosh of the American company on the opposite.

Towards a record contract for the new jersey sponsor

Finally, a detail that is important when discovering these new Atlético de Madrid jerseys: the team chaired by Enrique Cerezo has not yet found, or at least officially announced, its main jersey sponsor. According to the Spanish press, the trading platform Whalefin holds the rope for a 5-year lease valued at €210 million in total. The Cypriot trading site Plus500 paid nearly €17 million per year to the Colchoneros to appear on the club’s shirts, which ended the season 21-22 in 3rd place in La Liga. Herbalife, a nutrition brand, has been the main jersey sponsor of the Atlético women’s team from 2017 until 2023.
