Video of Vocal Azimio MP Engaging UDA Supporter Goes Viral

  • A UDA supporter burst into laughter as Budalangi MP Raphael Wanjala ridiculed the idea of ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi delivering 70 per cent of the Western vote to Kenya Kwanza.

Wanjala, who was aboard a local flight, began chiding the man dawning a UDA t-shirt, as passengers settled before taking off.

The MP questioned how UDA flagbearer, Deputy President William Ruto, would entrust Mudavadi to deliver the lamp sum of votes yet he barely garnered votes in the 2013 election.

“You are lying to Musalia that he will deliver 70 per cent. He himself ran for the presidency in 2013, how many votes did he garner?” The MP stated as the supporter laughed. The video capturing their engagement has since gone viral.

Wanjala, who is famous for his ‘Ruto tawe!’ slogan, which loosely translates to ‘No to Ruto’, told Kenya Kwanza to only expect the scraps after Azimio has swept the region just like chicken wait for leftovers.

In the 2013 poll, the ANC leader and running mate Jeremiah Kioni garnered a total of 483,981. Of these, 353,864 were from the four counties in the former Western Province – Kakamega(144,962), Vihiga (82,426),  Bungoma (107, 868), Busia (18,608).

Excluding Trans Nzoia County, which has been listed by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as part of the Rift Valley region, Mudavadi garnered only 29.14 per cent of the Western votes.

The statement comes amid tension in the Kenya Kwanza camp after the former Vice President, complained about UDA fielding candidates in his backyard. Mudavadi asked the voters not to embarrass him by voting for UDA candidates.

“Let me ask you this since we are in a coalition with Ruto, we are all at the top of the government. But let me ask you, are the people from Sugoi going to elect a Member of Parliament from ANC?” he posed

“As much as we have united here at the top where we are making the government, but an MP for Ruto is going to come from UDA, his home MCA will come from UDA. Then why would you decide to deny me an opportunity to be represented by an ANC lawmaker?” He added.

The Kenya Kwanza principal’s sentiments came just days after Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala accused UDA of undermining ANC and Ford Kenya’s bid to deliver 70 per cent of Western Kenya votes.

Malala among other leaders demanded the withdrawal of UDA candidate Clement Siloya who had expressed interest to succeed Alfred Agoi as Sabatia MP.

Agoi, who belongs to ANC, has expressed interest in Vihiga gubernatorial seat.
