At today’s Unpacked event, Samsung unveiled new devices in its foldable, flippable and wearable lineup. The giant tech company has updated it devices with nice-to-have features following a refinement theme across the lineup.
Samsung Z Flip 4 is the company’s fashion-focussed smartphone that ships with a 1.9″ cover screen and a relatively flatter hinge coming in various colours including blue, pink-gold, graphite and bora purple. There’s a bespoke version that allows you to mix and match the colours.
Switching to the font we get a 6.7″ main screen rocking a 120Hz variable refresh rate. Samsung says that they’ve reinforced the display material with a new stronger ultrathin glass. They didn’t fail to mention that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 sports IPX8 dust and water resistance.
Under the hood, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 runs on Qualcomm’s latest processor – the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 coupled with 8GB of RAM. It comes running on Android 12 and One UI 4.1.1.
For optics, we get a dual main camera setup comprising two 12MP sensors – Wide(1.8μm) and UltraWide. For selfies, we have a 10MP. We get optical stabilization for both photo and video(VDIS).
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 gets a bigger battery at 3700mAh battery with support for 25W fast wired charging and 10W wireless charging.
Pricing starts at 140K for the 8GB/256GB version.
The most anticipated foldable is now live – the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4.
The company opted to make it lighter and slimmer – now at 15.8mm thick at the hinge weighing 263g. Samsung made the hinge stronger and more flexible as it can stand on Flex mode and the closing and opening are now less rigid.
The cover screen comes at 6.2″ while the main screen is at 6.7″. These are OLED displays rocking 120Hz variable refresh rate. No S-Pens come included but the Fold 4 is compatible with the stylus for both its main and cover screen.
Another upgrade is the 4MP under-display screen that Samsung says they hid it a little bit better thanks to them increasing the pixel density in the display area over the camera.
Like the Flip 4, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 rocks the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 processor paired with 12GB of RAM with storage options starting at 256GB all the way to 1TB.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 comes powered by Android 12L and One UI 4.1.1.
Samsung upgraded the optics with a new 50MP main and a 3X telephoto lens.
Pricing starts at Khs 256,000 for the 12GB/512GB option.
Samsung also took to the stage to announce the Watch 5 series which includes a regular Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro.
They come rocking a touch bezel, sapphire crystal display and curvier back for better skin contact for the sensor. In terms of sizes, you are getting:
- Watch 5: 40mm and 44mm
- Watch 5 Pro: 45mm
The Watch 5 series ships with an Advanced 3-in-1 BioActive sensor that measures body composition, ECGs and heart rate. the WAastch 5 series also sports advanced sleep tracking features with the aim of personalized sleep coaching.
The Watch 5 series now includes a body temperature sensor. The data will be added to sleep tracking metrics.
Both vanilla and regular Watch 5 are powered by a 1.18GHz Exynos W920 processor paired with 16GB of storage and 1.5GB of RAM.
They come running on One UI Watch 4.5. Google Assistant and Bixby are accessible here too. Other features include dual-SIM support, Google Maps voice navigation from the wrist, Deezer and Soundcloud app support.

The two come with fast charging too with Samsung saying that 30 minutes will get you from empty top 45%.
Rounding up the launch was the Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro. They’re a bit smaller but feature an expanded venting grille. The buds come with the ability to switch between Galaxy devices but sadly miss out on multipoint support.
HiFi Audio(24-bit SSC HiFi) playback thanks to Samsung’s seamless codec is now supported on the buds and available on supported apps(Spotify doesn’t have this feature).
Other features the Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro have include 360-degree audio, Bluetooth 5.3, LE Audio, expanded NCS, and IPX7 rating for sweat and water resistance.
Battery life depends on the Active Nose cancellation. Samsung says:
