Mary Wambui Mungai Takes Over from Gilbert Kibe as CA Board Chair

On Monday, the Board of Chartered Accountants (CA) Kenya announced a major leadership change at their helm, with Mary Wambui Mungai set to take over from Gilbert Kibe as Board Chairperson.

Mungai, an audit and assurance specialist, was appointed to the Board of CA Kenya in October 2020 and was most recently acting as Deputy Chairperson prior to being named as the new Chairman. Kibe, who had been at the helm since December 2018, has tendered his resignation.

Mungai has deep experience and expertise as a Certified Public Accountant in the Kenyan market, and has occupied various positions in the business industry, including financial management and audit roles at firms like Ernst & Young, Deloitte and Dyer & Blair Investment Bank. She has held executive positions in some of Kenya’s largest companies, including Safaricom. Most recently, Mungai has been working as a Principal at the RMIA Consultants and Advisors.

The newly-appointed Chairman has graduated with a Masters in Business Administration from University of Nairobi and holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting Option) degree from Kenyatta University.

Mungai expressed her enthusiasm with the new development, stating: “I am honored to lead the Board at Chartered Accountants of Kenya, and I look forward to working alongside my fellow colleagues to continue to provide necessary support to the accountancy profession in Kenya.”

Kibe, who stepped down from the position, also expressed his approval of the move, commenting: “I am positive that the Board will be in safe hands under Mary’s leadership. We have achieved a great deal over the past two years, and I am confident that Mary will continue in the same direction.”

CA Kenya, established in 1964 and a member of the Pan-African body, ICAN, is a professional body whose primary mission is to ensure the highest standards in the accounting profession in the country. According to the Board’s website, their “mandate is to develop, promote and enhance the quality of accountancy and financial practices in Kenya so as to make maximum contribution to the country’s economic development.”

The Board’s Deputy Chair, Mungai is now charged with carrying out this mandate, backed by her wealth of experience and knowledge. With her impressive background, Mungai is undoubtedly the right leader to take CA Kenya to the next level.
