“We tried to put off the fire with water but our efforts bore no fruits,” stated one of the passengers.

Following the unprecedented accident, area residents helplessly watched from a distance as the bus was reduced to ashes.

“This is terrible,” noted another passenger as he recorded the ordeal.

From the one-minute video, other road users carried on their journey without offering assistance. Notably, no casualties were reported from the accident.

The cause of the fire was unascertained. However, some passengers claimed it began at the front of the vehicle

In November 2022, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) announced that the number of victims of road accidents from January to October 30, 2022, increased to 17,550 from 16,642 in 2021.

NTSA further indicate that accidents occurred mostly from Friday to Sunday between 5 pm and 10 pm due to reduced law enforcement, driver fatigue, and high volumes of traffic.

Accidents, it added, can be curbed through the reduction of wreckless driving and other human errors.
