Two boys aged 12 and six were Saturday injured when they accidentally detonated an abandoned explosive while looking after their fathers’ goats in Kikurrukur village of Majimoto sub-location, Narok County.

The two boys were rushed to Narok County Referral Hospital in critical condition with eye and leg injuries from the exploding shrapnel.

Police said the bomb had been abandoned in an open field in the area.

It is believed there are undetonated ordnances in the area since it was reportedly a military training field in the 1980s.

Area residents have since been urged to stay away from any suspicious metallic or military ordnance and instead report such immediately to the authorities.

Officers from a nearby Kenya Air Force Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Narok West have been alerted to send Combing and Detonation units to the area.
