Lightning strikes and kills
A 22-year-old woman died in a village after being struck by lightning in Nyamira County.
Two other people were admitted to Borabu Sub County Hospital with serious burns following the lightning strike on Tuesday evening.
Police and locals said the victims were harvesting kales in Matutu village when it started to rain.
They then went to take shelter under an avocado tree oblivious of the dangers lurking on them.
It was then that Nyanchama Oyaro, 22 was struck by lightning and died on the spot.
Derrick Oyaro aged 27 and Janet Orasto aged 30 sustained serious lower abdomen burns and were admitted to the hospital.
There have been calls for the installation of arrestors in the village.
Locals say such incidents have been common in the area hence the need to install the gadgets to arrest them.
According to National Geographic, annually about 2,000 people are killed worldwide by lightning.
Most deaths after lightning strikes occur either because of primary cardiac arrest or hypoxia-induced secondary cardiac arrest.
Meanwhile, a 58-year-old man who had been missing for days in Kamwotion village, Baringo County was found dead and hanging on a tree.
The body of Joseph Ruto was discovered hanging from a tree in the Kapkuti forest with a sisal rope tied around his neck.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending probe.
