Win for Jobless Youth as Govt Seals Job-Creating Deal

  • The Office of the Deputy President and the Ministry of Sports partnered with Trace East Africa to train youth to increase their employability in the formal and informal sectors.

    In a statement dated December 16, the government announced that all courses on the online application offer certificates that will be accredited and will help increase skill levels and absorption into the mainstream economy.

    Trace assured the government of its readiness to partner with the ministry to link Kenyan artists with European Chief Marketing Officers (CMO), in a bid to ensure that they are well rewarded for their creativity.

    In the meeting held on Thursday, December 15, Sports CS Ababu Namwamba was accompanied by Permanent Secretaries, Ismail Madey and Jonathan Mueke, and Ivy Chelimo from the Office of the Deputy President.

    Not known to many, the free-to-use, interactive, mobile learning application launched in April 2022 aimed to enable 26 million young Africans to acquire on-demand, market-relevant skills.

    “The platform offers young people total flexibility and control over their learning. Users can learn at their own pace, in their own time, and customise their journey to the emergent demands they face as they navigate the world of work,” stated Danny Mucira, the Managing Director at Trace Eastern Africa.  

    He added that the courses are deeply practical and designed in collaboration with market-leading organisations to ensure they are industry relevant.

    Additionally, the CS set out a plan to revive the creative space, commercialise arts, and turn it into a mega industry, crucial in the economic development of our country. 

    This was part of his quest to ensure that artists could earn well doing what they love

    During the 2022 Jamhuri Day celebrations on Monday, December 12, the government announced free scholarships to all those who attended the festivities.

    “Every citizen who will attend the festivities at Nyayo Stadium will go home with a course paid for by the University of Arizona,” President William Ruto declared.
