Former Education CS Prof George Magoha has passed away.
The sad news were confirmed by his family who revealed he suffered a cardiac arrest while receiving treatment at the Nairobi Hospital.
The hospital’s Chief Executive Officer James Nyamongo confirmed the demise, stating that Magoha breathed his last shortly after arriving at the facility.
“It is with great regret that we announce the sudden and untimely demise of Prof George Magoha this evening at the Nairobi Hospital.”
Magoha collapsed at home and was rushed to the hospital’s accident and emergency. Efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.
Magoha is survived by his wife Dr Barbra Magoha and his son Dr Michael Magoha.
His death comes barely a week after his appointment as a lecturer of medical surgery at the Maseno University School of medicine.
Magoha’s last public appearance was when he handed over the functions of the Ministry of Education to his successor, Ezekiel Machogu.
George Magoha was born in 1952 he did his primary education in Yala, Siaya County and Nairobi before joining Starehe Boys Centre and Strathmore College for his high school education.
He studied medicine at the University of Lagos in Nigeria. He furthered his studies in Surgery and Urology at Lagos University Teaching Hospital, University College Hospital, Ibadan, Royal College of Surgeons, Dublin, Ireland and Royal Postgraduate Medical School Hammersmith Hospital, London, Department of Urology.
In his career he has worked as a lecturer in urological surgery and a professor of surgery. He was a member of many professional bodies in Urology and Surgery.
