A 28-year-old matatu driver in Nakuru, Simon Ndung’u, appealed for financial help after his 25-year-old wife gave birth to 5 babies.
The quintuplets, four girls and a boy, were delivered at Nakuru Level 5 Hospital on Tuesday, January 31, after a three-day admission at the hospital.
Nakuru Level 5 Superintendent Aisha Maina confirmed the birth of the children explaining that the woman, Margaret Wairimu, went to the hospital in pain on Friday, January 27, when it was determined that the pregnancy was a high risk.

“She was immediately admitted and placed under observation by specialists until she went into labor and underwent an emergency cesarean section.
“Because the pregnancy was at seven months, the babies were born with very low weights,” Maina explained.
Ndung’u, the father of the babies, stated that he was at work driving to Nairobi when he received the news.
He expressed his shock stating that the first surprise he got was prior knowledge that his wife was expecting five children while they were planning for a second child.
“We also have a four-year-old daughter and this was her second pregnancy.
“The news came as a shock but I am happy and I believe there is a reason why God gave these five children to my wife and I,” Ndung’u stated.
The father appealed for financial support from well-wishers to enable him continue providing for his six children and wife because he was the sole breadwinner.
“Am appealing to well-wishers for support. Her most recent scan showed that she was carrying three babies but another two have come along at birth,” said Ndung’u.
The obstetrician in charge at the facility James Waweru, stated that the birth of the quintuplets was a first occurrence at the facility noting that chances of survival of multiple births were lower because of the lower birth weight.
Waweru stated that the five children and the mother were put under observation and special care.
