More joy for Kenya in Australia as Kipkurui bags gold at World Cross Country Championships – Capital Sports

NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 18 – National Under 20 cross country champion Ishmael Kipkurui earned Kenya’s third medal at the World Cross Country Championships in Bathurst, Australia when he won the men’s Under 20 8km race.

Kipkurui led a 1-2 Kenyan finish, timing 0:24:29 in first place, ahead of World Under 20 1500m champion Reynold Cheruiyot, who clocked 0:24:30 in second.

Ethiopia’s Boki Diriba timed 0:24:31 to collect bronze in what was a tightly-contested race.

As far as the World Cross Country Championships are concerned, the win is Kenya’s first at the men’s Under 20 level since 2011.
