Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has ordered a national crackdown on substandard contractors.
Speaking on Monday, February 20, in Juja, Kiambu County, during the opening of a new primary school at the GSU Camp, the CS directed the authorities to launch the operation with immediate effect.
He instructed the security officers and the construction authority to work together with the county government to make sure the mission succeeds.
“We have declared all-out war on contractors putting up buildings illegally in matters that put danger to people. We enforce the law on the regulation of buildings.

They are not different from bandits killing people. We will not wait for any other disaster,” he commanded.
He added that President William Ruto had ordered the national security officers to work with the county officers for better service delivery.
“We requested county government must work with the national government. The work of our security agencies is to ensure that our country is safe and they should not be involved in political matters,” he stated.
In addition, the CS ordered the security officers to collaborate with the public in smoking out illegal foreigners in the country.
Stating that Kiambu hosted most of the people who conduct business in Nairobi County, he announced that the crackdown was to begin at the county.
“Kiambu is described as Nairobi Bedroom, but this has also led to illegal foreigners living here. Some of these are terrorists so I have asked security officers, to work with the public to look for all those foreigners who are illegally into the country since they might be planning dangerous deeds to our country,” he uttered.
The announcement came after Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi disbanded a technical committee responsible for approving the construction of buildings on November 2022 after two buildings collapsed claiming lives.
He also directed an audit on all buildings under construction in the county, after a six-storey building under construction collapsed in Ruaka.
Tenants living in a another five-storey building in Ruiru, were also evacuated by the governor after the flat showed signs of collapsing. It collapsed hours after the evacuation.
