Blink and I’m gone! – Super fast Omanyala runs world leading time at Nyayo – Capital Sports

NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 24 – On form Ferdinand Omanyala has not come to play this season, and Africa’s fastest man set another super-fast time on Friday, running a world leading 9.86 to win the opening heat of the 100m at the Athletics Kenya Track Meet at the Nyayo National Stadium.
This was Omanyala’s first 100m competitive race this season, having just arrived from a tour of France where he twice broke Kenya’s national record in the 60m indoor dash.
“We came here to do business; we never came to joke. The plan was to get it right from the heats. We’ll see about tomorrow (running another sub-10), I don’t want to promise anything,” an elated Omanyala said after the race.
He was untouchable, leading from block to finish, in another show of just what is prepared for him this season.
He came into the race on the backdrop of brilliant times in France.
He broke the 60m national record after clocking 6.54 to win at the Lievin World Indoor Tour. The win came a week after clocking 6.55 to win the men’s 60m in Mondeville World Indoor Tour – during which he lowered the national mark for the first time.
Omanyala further exalted the importance of the World Indoor Tour, pointing out that it has sharpened his starting technique off the blocks.
