A fuel tanker driver was burnt alive on Saturday after his vehicle collided head-on with a lorry at Awasi on the Kisumu-Nairobi Highway.

The lorry driver and turnboy escaped unscathed, according to Nyanza Regional Traffic Boss Joseph Ng’an’ga.

Ng’ang’a added that two motorcycles likewise burst into flames following the collision.

The tanker was headed to Kericho direction when the incident happened.

Ng’ang’a said the tanker did not have fuel by the time of the accident.

“It had emptied the product and the driver was racing to probably Nairobi to reload,” he said.

Nanga said the driver of the tanker was burnt in the vehicle when the fire exploded while two people who were in the tipper escaped unhurt.

Residents who witnessed the accident failed to save the driver as the flames of the fire were too hot.

Police are investigating the incident.
