Fire Razes Down Businesses Worth Millions Along Kiambu Road

  • Businesses along Kiambu road incurred losses worth millions after a fire razed down a furniture shop and a motor shop.

    According to videos shared online and seen by Kenyans.co.kethe Sunday afternoon, February 26 fire engulfed Kapital Furnitures and spread to Garden Motors along Kiambu road.  

    By the time of this publication, the cause of the fire was yet to be established with preliminary reports indicating that no casualties were reported.

    Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Peter Kimani, the owner of Kapital Furniture, stated that the fire had razed his business to the ground.  

    “I was not at the premise at the time of the incident but I have been told that the business is all burnt down. I am on my way from Mombasa to determine the exact amount of loss made,” Kimani stated.

    The Sunday afternoon fire that started at Kapital Furniture also spread to a nearby car dealership called Garden Motors. 

    Garden Motors owner also confirmed the fire incident had spread to his shop but was quickly contained before causing more damage to the business. 

    “The fire started from the neighbouring furniture shop and spread to our shop. However, non of our vehicles have been burned by the fire because we were able to contain it on time,” the businessman told Kenyans.co.ke.

    According to witnesses, the fire started at around 2:00 PM on Sunday, February 26.

    The residents alerted other businesses in the area who reached out to the fire department, but they were yet to arrive at the scene by the time this article was published.

    The incident occurred a day after a section of Kangundo Level 4 Hospital caught fire forcing the hospital staff to rush to safety for expectant women admitted to the ward. 

    In the preliminary assessment of the loss incurred, an officer working in the hospital noted that mattresses and beds were among the property destroyed by the fire.
