Aoko’s Arrest Sparks Outrage Over Alleged Abuse of Power by CS Soipan Tuya
Nairobi, August 18, 2024—Controversy is brewing following the dramatic arrest of Aoko, whose home was raided by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in a heavily armed operation involving more than three Subaru vehicles. The raid, described by many as a blatant show of force, saw Aoko’s home ransacked, with her electronics, including phones and a laptop, seized without any apparent justification.
Aoko remains detained without any valid reason, prompting widespread condemnation and accusations of abuse of power. The hashtag #FreeAoko has been trending as Kenyans express their outrage over what they perceive as a misuse of state machinery.
Aoko has since alleged that Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya is behind her arrest. According to Aoko, this is not the first time the CS has used security agencies to settle personal scores. There are claims that Soipan previously used the DCI to harass her ex-husband after a personal dispute involving their child, who reportedly chose to live with the father.
Critics are questioning why CS Tuya, if she felt aggrieved, did not pursue a defamation case through legal channels instead of resorting to such heavy-handed tactics.
