Reprieve for Jimi Wanjigi After Court Issues Directives to IG Masengeli & DCI Boss Amin
A High Court in Nairobi on Tuesday blocked the Acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss Mohamed Amid from accessing Jimi Wanjigi’s residence.
In its ruling, the court also directed the duo to return all the items that belonging to the politician confiscated by security agencies during a raid conducted last month.
The court issued the orders pending the hearing and a determination of the petition presented before it in August this year.
“Pending the hearing and determination of the application, the court be and is hereby pleased to grant an order directing the respondents to return the plaintiffs” items,” the court stated.

“Pending the hearing and determination of the Application, the Honourable Court be and is hereby pleased to grant an Order restraining the Defendants or anyone acting under their instructions from confiscating and/or destroying any property belonging to the Plaintiffs,” the court added.
The orders followed the politician’s petition filed before the court in August this year seeking to stop the police from apprehending him.
Wanjigi also sought to have IG Masengeli and DCI boss Amin compelled to return items worth Ksh8.5 million confiscated from his residence on August 8.
In his petition, the businessman submitted a list of 36 items including phones, laptops, jewellery and cash taken from his home in Muthaiga.
He further faulted the police for throwing tear gas canisters at his residence during the raid allegedly conducted by a group of police officers last month.
In his application, Wanjigi additionally denied claims that several items were found in his possession.
“The Applicant denies knowledge of the stated items and discovery, categorically stating that the motor vehicle in which they were discovered, if at all, does not belong to him or any of his associates or affiliates as reported,” Wanjigi stated in his petition.
The orders come barely three weeks after the court released him on a Ksh10 million bond after he was charged with alleged possession of six firearms.
