Zambia Airways Resumes Flights to Tanzania

Zambia Airways has resumed its direct flights from Lusaka, Zambia to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania after a sixteen-year hiatus, seeking to boost trade and the tourism sector for the two countries.

Acting Minister of Transport and Logistics, Garry Nkombo, officiated the launch at Julius Kambarage Nyerere International Airport in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania.Zambia Airways will operate the route with a Boeing 737, offering three flights per week, in addition to Air Tanzania’s current five flights to Zambia.Nkombo said that the development would enable Zambia to connect to more cities, expand its network, and strengthen its aviation presence in the region.“Collaboration with Zambia is crucial, especially considering that 70 per cent of cargo transported through Dar es Salaam port originates from or transits through Zambia. Zambia Airways will simplify the movement of people and goods, further strengthening our relationship,” says the Permanent Secretary in Tanzania’s Ministry of Transport, Prof Godius Kahyarara.

“The airline is investing in fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly aircraft to reduce its carbon footprint, contributing to a greener environment,” said Cosam Ngoma, the acting Managing Director of Zambia Airports Corporation Limited last year when they welcomed its newly acquired Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

He reported remarkable growth in both international and domestic air travel, with passenger numbers soaring by 106 per cent and 133 per cent, respectively, as of August 2023 compared to August 2019.
