CS Kindiki Issues Update on Hillside Endarasha Tragedy

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki on Thursday cautioned Kenyans against spreading fake news about the Hillside Endarasha tragedy.

The CS, who spoke at a presser in Nyeri, disclosed that he spotted a section of Kenyans sharing false figures about the number of those affected by the fire incident.

While insisting on the matter, Kindiki termed those sharing fake news about the tragedy as merciless criminals who wished nothing good for the country.

“I have seen some statements made by people on social media about numbers, and I want to put the record straight and say a matter like this is a national security issue,” the CS clarified.

“Being a national security matter, we have nothing to hide. We will provide information daily.”

The CS clarified that investigations were still ongoing and urged Kenyans to exercise patience even as security agencies heightened their efforts to unravel the truth.

“We will pursue and get justice for the affected families and all those who contributed to this tragedy will be brought to account,” Kindiki remarked.

The CS, in his update, revealed that all the 330 pupils who had boarded at the school were accounted for.

The CS further clarified that 140 pupils residing inside the affected dormitory had already been reunited with their parents with three still undergoing treatment.

“Today, I have been reliably informed that the process of reconciliation of the pupils to their parents is complete,” the CS commented.

Kindiki’s sentiments came hours after a group of activists staged demonstrations near the affected school as they demanded answers to the death of the 21 pupils.

However, the protests were cut short after police officers and a section of the residents intervened and dispersed the adamant demonstrators.

The activists while expressing their outrage, demanded answers over the alleged disappearance of 70 students whose absence had sparked confusion online.
