Ruto to Meet German CEOs After Injecting Ksh 150B in Kenyan Economy

President William Ruto is scheduled to engage in a string of crucial activities that could potentially profit Kenyans during his two-day visit to Germany.

State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed revealed on Thursday, September 12, that among the items on the President’s itinerary is a meeting with some of the top chief executive officers in the European nation.

“The President will equally engage with leading German business leaders during a special CEO’s forum aimed at enhancing trade and investment opportunities between Kenya and Germany,” Hussein said in a statement.

Some of the CEOs expected to be in attendance include those of major companies like Mercedes-Benz, YouTube, and one of the biggest cruise companies in the world – Ida Cruises.

The Head of State noted that the meeting was crucial since at least 100 German companies are operating in Kenya and that the European powerhouse is a key player in the Kenyan economy, with investments worth Ksh.150 billion.

Nairobi hosts the largest office globally for the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the forum is a perfect platform for the President to boost international business relations, particularly in the technology and automotive manufacturing sectors.

In addition, President Ruto will also meet German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier as well as German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

Talks about cooperation between Kenya and Germany are expected to headline the agenda.

With tourism being a key driver in Kenya’s economy, Ruto is also set to attend the upcoming Germany Annual Citizen Festival dubbed “Bürgerfest” in a move that will reinforce cultural ties and boost tourism in the country.

Kenya will be the first non-European nation to participate in the festival scheduled for September 13 – September 14 in Berlin, Germany.

If talks prove successful, Ruto’s Germany tour could directly benefit Kenyans in several ways.

Getting employment opportunities for Kenyans in Germany could become much easier as students pursuing higher learning could be granted long-stay visas after completion of their studies and vocational training.

Talks between the two heads of state will also likely promote investment opportunities in key sectors such as manufacturing agriculture tourism and the creative economy.

Finally, talks between Ruto and Steinmeier could see Germany waive the requirement for a labour market test for Kenyans.
