Govt Warns Motorists of 33-Day Traffic Disruption on Mombasa Road

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has informed Kenyans of a looming traffic disruption owing to an upcoming road reconstruction.

In a notice issued on Friday, the authority informed road users that the traffic disruption will be along a section of the Mombasa Road near Syokimau Railway Station.

Kenyans using the Mombasa Road will experience traffic disruptions along the Nairobi bound lanes for a month, from Friday, 20 September to Tuesday, 22 October.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of Mombasa Road (A8) near Syokimau Railway Station will experience traffic disruption along the Nairobi-bound lanes from Friday, September 20, 2024, to Tuesday, October 22, 2024,” part of the statement read.

In the official statement, KeNHA Director General Kung’u Ndung’u has advised road users to use the alternatives that will be proposed by the authority and cooperate with police and traffic officers on site.

“KeNHA advises motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan below and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site,” the notice added.

During the one-month traffic disruption, the Highway authority will be constructing a mid-span footbridge foundation at the median between the Nairobi-bound lanes and the adjacent Nairobi Expressway fence.

“This is to allow for realignment of the road and construction of a mid-span footbridge foundation at the median between the Nairobi bound lanes and the adjacent Nairobi Expressway fence,” the statement concluded.

This notice comes 7 days after KeNHA announced the closure of 12 roads within Nairobi to pave the way for the Nairobi City Marathon competition.

The temporary closure affected the Nairobi Southern Bypass, the Nairobi Expressway between James Gichuru Road, and the entrance to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

Other roads that were also closed included Waiyaki Way, Mombasa Road, Langata Road, Harry Thuku Road, the University Way, Koinange Street, Tata Road, Wakiihuri and Bunyala Road.
