Plane With 10 Passengers Veers Off Runway in Kenya

A plane carrying 10 passengers and one crew member veered off the Lichota Airstrip in Migori while taking off.

Witnesses at the scene revealed that the plane was nearing the end of the runway when it veered off and a cloud of billowing smoke ensued.

Fortunately, no fatalities or injuries were recorded.

“I was in my compound next to the airstrip when I saw the plane trying to take off from the runway. It lost control and stalled at the end of the runaway,” One of the witnesses, Moses Ywera, stated.

Witnesses also revealed that their efforts to jump in and rescue the passengers were thwarted by the Airstrip officials who rushed the scene.

Photos obtained by Kenyans.co.ke showed that a fire engine and an ambulance from the Migori County Government arrived at the airstrip immediately.

The crash happened during take-off at around 12.30 pm on Monday, September 16.

The aircraft has also been identified as the property of Z.Boskovic Air Charters with registration number 5Y-ZBW.

In a statement, Z. Boskovic Air Charters revealed that the company had gotten in touch with relevant authorities who have taken over investigations.

“We have engaged the relevant authorities to support the investigation of the incident and are closely investigating the incident.”

By the time of publishing, the cause of the crash had not been made public.
