Police Deployed as Fight Breaks Out at High School in Nairobi

Eleven students were rushed to hospital on Sunday night after they sustained injuries following a night fight at Dagoretti High School in Nairobi.

The dispute forced the leadership of Nairobi Police Service to send its officers to address the situation after reports emerged that it turned religious, with two groups emerging fiercely opposed to each other.

The dispute between the two groups started as a simple disagreement over a basketball game between Form Ones and Form Fours at the school.

The dispute led to Kenyan students fighting with their Sudan counterpartss after the disagreement spilled over.

According to amateur video footage seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the students could be seen using sticks and stones to target each other in the middle of the fiasco.

From the video, the students could be seen moving around the school compound at night as some shouted during the standoff.

School buses could also be seen moving out of the school compound as the students roamed around freely.

Reports from the police indicated that the embroilment left 11 students nursing injuries.

The authorities further revealed that tensions remained high even after their arrival, even though they were on standby to add more deployment if the standoff continued.

Dagoretti South Member of Parliament John Kiarie confirmed the incident revealing that it caused considerable damage, even as they had activated the necessary procedures to respond to the incident.

”The incident at Dagoretti High School has caused considerable damage as the Boys went on the rampage at night. Thankfully, even with the cases of injuries that are being attended to, there are no fatalities or burning. All necessary actions and procedures forward have been activated,” Kiarie noted in a statement.

The school was, however, yet to release a statement regarding the ugly scenes witnessed at the school when we went to press.

This comes in the wake of recent student unrest that continues to be witnessed across the country with more dormitory facilities reportedly going ablaze, dealing a blow to authorities on the cause of incidents.

The incident could potentially paralyze learning at the school as the management moves to calm the situation.
