Man Ambushes Police Officer, Snatches His Gun & Opens Fire in Public

There was confusion and odd drama when a man grabbed a gun from a police officer in Makueni County after attacking and injuring the officer before trying to run away with the gun.

The man, who is claimed to be mad, is reported to have attacked the officer attached to Kwetu Sacco Police Station in Emali Town who, at the time, was making a phone call.

‘’The man came in a suspicious move and he had a panga hidden in the waist and found the officer making a call using his phone and when he observed that the officer was not alert, he took his gun before attacking him with his panga,’’ Anthony Muendo, a local told the media.

It took the intervention of the local bodaboda men who went after him in a bid to recover the gun before he could harm other people.

The man is reported to have responded by firing in the air forcing the locals to scamper for safety in fear of their lives.

He is reported to have sought a temporary hiding place in a residential unit, the injured officer informed the bodaboda men who were determined to hunt him that the gun had only two bullets. Therefore, he could not put up the shooting spree.

Armed with the information, the bodaboda men pushed on with the pursuit of the man as no officers had responded to the incident by the time.

However, his daring move came to an end after he ran out of bullets and the locals wrestled him to the ground before the gun was seized from him.

‘’We went after him and in the process, he fell after firing all the bullets and that’s when he was lynched,’’ Sylvester Mulei, a local bodaboda narrated.

The bodaboda men stoned and lynched him to death in a retaliatory move after he injured the officer on the head with his panga.

The officer, who was by then bleeding profusely, was rushed to a nearby health facility where the medical team revealed that they had stabilised him and he was out of danger

‘’Today around 2 pm we received a patient and he was bleeding and we stabilized him and he is doing okay,’’  Lilian Munini, a medical officer, reported.

The body was moved to the mortuary as police launched investigations into the incident. The incident comes months after a university student attacked a police officer manning traffic in Nairobi’s Kasarani area in May.
