Morara Kebaso & Mercy Tarus Clash Over Slogan

There is a brewing feud within the anti-government movement that sprung up during the protest of the infamous 2024 Finance Bill, with one faction blaming the other of hijacking the revolution’s agenda for personal interests.

Activists Morara Morara and Mercy Tarus clashed over the ‘Kenya Ni Home’ slogan with each party contesting ownership of the slogan and therefore claiming they are the de facto leaders of the movement. The two who lead different civic education groups have been using the slogan in recent weeks.

Taking to her X (formerly Twitter), Tarus blasted Morara for misusing the slogan accusing him of attempting to gain political clout. “We agree on something, you go ahead and do the opposite and act ignorant. We might be facing the same enemy but our reasons differ,” Tarus shared on X.

“There is no such thing as a messiah in this thing. It is a collective effort. There are those that want to gain political power in the end and those that want other things. Kenya Ni Home and home must be respected!” she cautioned.

Earlier on September 8, the two seemed to be fine with both using the slogan in their messaging campaigns.

“We are more than we are. We are one. Mbele pamoja (Forward together). Kenya Ni Home Movement will shake this country to its foundations. We will drain the swamp through civic education injections,” Morara shared on his handle to which Mercy Tarus replied, “Welcome, brother. It’s time!”

However, things started taking a different twist after Morara engaged his supporters over the possibility of changing their slogan given that it was already in use by another group.

“I have noticed that the slogan ‘Kenya Ni Home’ is already being used by another civic education team. Therefore, I need a new slogan. Comment below with slogans that we can use to drive the movement,” he urged his supporters.

Tarus, who rose to fame after lecturing Uasin Gishu officials for showing up late to a meeting, has been using the slogan ‘Kenya Ni Home’ in her messaging, a movement which Morara claims to be the leader of.

She further revealed that her advice to Morara is never implemented and if they do, Morara claims credit.

“You cannot keep coming to me for advice and your fake commitment to the ‘movement’ then you go out to use my initiative’s name, slogan and plan to execute a vision you do not understand. Then you go out and act like you are so superior,” she vented questioning the source of funds of some of the activists.

She fired a warning to Morara to avoid being sucked by fame. “Don’t think you’re the one. You’re desperate because hype is a addictive and you need the temporary high all the time. You are always in my DMs and my call logs consulting, then you go out and shine with things that don’t belong to you.”

It comes barely a day after Morara announced that he was gifted a mansion by a well-wisher which would be used as offices as he seeks to assemble a team to conduct civic education campaigns across the country.
