Quiver Steak House Demolished Days After Crackdown

Quiver Steak House in Kilimani has been demolished barely 48 hours after residents launched complaints over noise pollution.

Videos and images seen by Kenyans.co.ke on Wednesday, September 18 showed excavators reducing the famous joint into debris.

The latest move came barely two days after the popular nightclub was pressured to find a solution to the noise problem, which was affecting residents in the Kilimani area.

Geoffrey Mosiria, the county’s Chief Officer of Environment, spearheaded the initiative to have the popular club shut down due to excess noise.

On Monday, September 16, Mosiria shared a video where he forced the Quiver management to shut down the Milimani branch over noise pollution.

“We have had to close down the establishment because they ignored multiple notices and complaints from neighbours. We are now enforcing action against those who have failed to address our soundproofing requests.

We cannot allow continuous environmental pollution and disturbances to our community’s peace,” he said on Monday.

The club had reportedly been issued a notice to soundproof its premises.

A manager of one of the Quiver enterprises confirmed to Kenyans.co.ke that the Milimani branch had indeed been shut down days before the demolition.

“Yes. Quiver Milimani was closed earlier this week by NEMA for noncompliance. The other branches are still active,” he said.

After Mosiria’s visit, a notice emerged online claiming Quiver had resolved to continue operations without any music – a move which was welcomed by Environment Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale.

Prior to its demolition Quiver Milimani was on the spot, with one woman revealing the club had a tendency to feature extremely loud live bands on weekdays. The band reportedly plays music late into the night.

The club’s geographical location was always going to pose an issue, as it neighbours the Military headquarters and State House.

It was also situated a few metres from the County Commander of Nairobi Headquarters and residential houses.

Quiver is one of the most popular nightclub chains in Nairobi, with several different branches spread across the city.
