2 Foreigners Slapped With Ksh 30M Fine Each at JKIA Court

Two foreigners were on Thursday fined Ksh30 million, failure to which they will serve a one-year jail term after they were convicted by the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Court for trafficking narcotic drugs.

The two foreigners were arrested on March 13, 2024, after officers from the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) conducted an intelligence-led operation.

The convicts were nabbed in the Nyamakima area by a team of detectives drawn from the Transnational Organized Crimes Unit, augmented by their Anti-Narcotics Unit counterparts.

After they were arrested, they led the detectives to their homes in Umoja and Santon where they were found with heroin and cannabis.

“The duo led the detectives to their places of abode at Umoja and Sunton where they were found with 39.04 gms of heroin and 25.71 gms of cannabis,” part of the DCI statement read.

The two were arraigned at the JKIA court where they pleaded guilty to the charges.

Apart from the jail term and fine, the court also ordered that the two be deported back to their country once they finish their term.

The drugs that were nubbed are expected to be destroyed as the court has ordered.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has been on a raze to curb drug trafficking in the nation.

On Sunday, the agency’s detectives nabbed a KDF officer alongside several other suspects during a four-day operation targetting drug dens in the coastal region.

The KDF officer was arrested alongside a juvenile after they were nabbed with narcotic drugs which included: heroin, marijuana, and diazepam among others.

The DCI has maintained that traffickers in narcotics must eschew illegal dealings and take on legitimate business ventures, or else continue suffering the heat of the unforgiving law.

They have continued to call upon Kenyans to report cases of drug trafficking around them.
