DP Gachagua Breaks Silence on Impeachment in Nairobi CBD Rally

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Friday hit out at a section of Members of Parliament over plans to table an impeachment motion to oust him from his current position.

Gachagua who spoke to traders at the Marikiti Market in Nairobi, claimed he received information about plans to out and replace him with a puppet.

While addressing the matter, the deputy president alleged it was impossible to dismiss him since it was the Kenyan people who elected him to the position.

“They’re threatening me that they will mobilize MPs to kick me out and install their puppet. They have given these MPs money to sell me fear,” Gachagua claimed.

“I was elected by Kenyans and they are the ones to remove me from my seat when the time comes,” he added.

The DP while insisting on the matter, also took a swipe at Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja over his controversial decision to forcefully relocate traders.

Gachagua accused the city governor of betraying the traders by failing to heed their demands despite receiving immense support from them during the last elections.

“When we were campaigning at Wakukima market, there were a lot of people and no one had a problem after we got their many votes, it is now said there is a congestion problem in the CBD,” the DP alleged.

“Why didn’t anyone complain when they were bringing their many votes?”

Gachagua’s sentiments come days after reports emerged about plans by a section of Kenya Kwanza legislators to impeach the deputy president and replace him.

Sources privy to the information revealed that the Kenya Kwanza leadership in the National Assembly had already received an impeachment motion against the second in command.
