Three Companies Win US-Tanzania Tech Challenge

JamiiForums, Smart Foundry Ltd, and The Launchpad Tanzania, have won the US-Tanzania Tech Challenge, the United States Embassy in Tanzania said in a statement on Friday.

Jamii Forums will receive US$100,000, Smart Foundry will receive US$80,000, and The Launchpad will receive US$70,000.The challenge, which begun in June, attracted more than 100 entries, of which eight were shortlisted.The shortlisted companies then presented how their technologies can tackle pressing issues in the information space.Partnering like we are today – government officials, private sector entrepreneurs, tech innovators, and consumers – can inspire the next great innovation and collaborative effort to shape our shared future,” Dr. Michael A. Battle, the U.S. Ambassador to Tanzania.

Jamii Forums is a social networking website founded in 2006 to provide an open forum for Tanzanians to “talk openly.” Smart Foundry is a venture studio that provides a platform to create and build startups that solve “African challenges by transforming strategic partnerships.”

According to its Linkedin profile, The Launchpad Tanzania is a not for profit organisation established in 2017. Its model is aimed at “contributing to human capital development and sustainable development programs.”
