How 3 Teenagers Faked Abduction & Pressed Parents to Release Ksh6 Million

3 Kenyan teenagers were on Monday arrested after concocting a fake kidnapping attempt in a bid to defraud Ksh6 million from the parents of one of their accomplices in Meru County.

The teens, all aged 17 years old, concocted the plot in a get-rich-quick scheme that was quickly foiled by police officers drawn from Imenti North.

Consisting of two boys and a girl, the minors conspired to have the girl act as the victim and the boys as kidnappers.

They then called up the girl’s parents and demanded a Ksh6 million ransom before agreeing to release their daughter unharmed.

However, their plan started falling apart when the girl’s parents got in touch with the police and filed a missing child report on September 24.

Officers from the Meru Police Station then launched a frantic manhunt for the kidnappers believing the girl was in danger.

Up until that point, the purported victim’s parents had frantically tried to hold negotiations with the pretend kidnappers to no avail.

After joining the investigations, however, detectives from Imenti North quickly discovered a trail of forensic evidence leading directly to the alleged victim.

She had conspired with the two boys in order to extort a lump sum of money from her parents.

The 3 were ultimately smoked out of their hideout in Kainginyo where 20 rolls of marijuana were also discovered.

Despite being found safe and sound, the three were all arrested and are currently being held at Igoji Police Station awaiting arraignment in court.

They are all facing conspiracy to defraud charges as well as possession of narcotics.
