The Department of Diaspora Affairs through the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs on Thursday announced plum business opportunities for all Kenyan business owners in China.
In a notice issued by the Kenyan Embassy in China, the government invited the business owners for a prequalification registration to bid for opportunities to supply goods and services.
“In its endeavour to promote the growth of Kenyan Diaspora businesses, the State Department for Diaspora Affairs, Ministry of Foreign & Diaspora Affairs, is inviting interested and eligible Kenyan-owned businesses in the diaspora (China)to submit bid documents for pre-qualification/ registration for the supply of goods and services for the FY 2024-2026,” the notice reads in part.
The notice then goes further to list four main categories the government is seeking services in.

To top the list in the SDDA/36/24-26 category, the government seeks services in the provision of event management, including master of ceremonies.
Categories SDDA/37/24-26 and SDDA/38/24-26 also seek service provision in catering and repatriation respectively.
For the last service on the list, the government lists the hiring of motor vehicles abroad under the category SDDA/39/24-26
For any of the businesses abroad to qualify for the bids, they have to submit their country profiles to the Kenyan embassy and register.
The deadline for submission of bids and business profiles is slated for October 2, 2024, via info@kenyaembassy.cn to the Kenyan Embassy in China.
This endeavour is expected to foster the growth of businesses owned by Kenyans living in China, and further the country’s economy through diaspora remittances.
In February this year, the government announced a plan to raise the remittances to Ksh1 trillion in line with President William Ruto’s directive.
He also unveiled three ways to achieve this goal which include; conducting tax sensitisation to Kenyans living abroad, implementing a savings scheme for them, and introducing a diaspora bond which will be ultimately sold to them.
These measures are also expected to motivate Kenyans in the diaspora to invest back home.
