Kenya Police Officers Deployed in Second Foreign Country on Peace Mission

Kenya on Tuesday sent a contingent of its police officers for a peacekeeping mission in South Sudan, a second international mission that officers from Kenya are undertaking this year.

The officers are set to coordinate with other officers from South Sudan under the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission (UNMISS).

The 18 Kenyan officers are majorly drawn from the Administration Police Service(APS) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations(DCI).

The officers will be in the foreign nation under the command of Mbatian Kantai, a Senior Superintendent of Police(SSP), and will serve for a term of one year.

The officers met the Inspector General of Police (IG) Douglas Kanja at the National Police Service headquarters at Vigilance House in Nairobi on September 26 before embarking on the peacekeeping mission.

The IG asked the officers to incorporate teamwork and show high levels of professionalism in the delivery of the duties in East Africa’s youngest nation.

Kanja also wished the officers well and reminded them to exhibit high levels of discipline during the mission.

”IG Kanja reminded the officers to work as a team and exhibit high levels of discipline and professionalism in the performance of their duty and further wished them a successful tour of duty,” a statement from NPS read.

This will be Kenya’s second peacekeeping mission serviced by officers from the National Police Service within the year as another contingent is currently kilometers away in Haiti.

Kenya’s mission in Haiti includes a contingent of 400 officers with advanced training in security operations serving under the command of Senior Assistant Inspector General(SAIG) of Police Charles Otunge.

The officers in Haiti are currently serving under the mandate of the Multinational Security Support Mission(MSS) under the General assignment by the United Nations Security Council.
