Morara Kebaso was on Tuesday released on a cash bail of Ksh50,000 moments after being arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts.
In its decision, the High Court further directed Morara Kebaso, and his lawyers, to appear for a hearing on Friday, October 4 at 2 pm.
In an interesting turn of events, NARC-Kenya Party leader Martha Karua appeared for Kebaso as lead counsel. She was flanked by a battery of more than 10 lawyers.
The court ruling came hours after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) preferred charges against him including cyber harassment contrary to Section 27 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act.

According to the charge sheet presented to the court by the prosecution, Morara Kebaso was arrested for allegedly posting false information about David Langat.
Kebaso was accused of allegedly tarnishing the reputation of the businessman and attempting to pit him against President William Ruto.
The prosecution in its charge sheet alleged that Morara Kebaso, through his X account claimed that David Langat took huge loans to fund President Ruto’s campaign in the last election with a promise of a refund.
The controversial post further alleged that the tycoon was currently facing auction after he reportedly failed to repay the money he took to fund the Head of State’s campaign.
“David Morara Kebaso alias Morara Kebaso Snr on the 28th day of September 2024 at an unknown place within the Republic of Kenya, jointly with others not before the court, while using the X Corp Account dubbed; @MoraraKebasoSnr, knowingly without lawful excuse, posted false information…” the charge sheet read in part.
Kebaso’s release comes barely a day after he was arrested by people believed to be police officers at his office in Kahawa Sukari in Nairobi.
During his arrest, Kebaso’s lawyer managed to trail the police car up to the Nairobi Regional Headquarters where Kebaso was detained before being transferred to the DCI Headquarters before his subsequent arraignment.
While detailing Kebaso’s arrest, the activist’s lawyer faulted detectives for holding the activist incommunicado. The attorneys also claimed that his lawyers had been barred from accessing their client.
“They have restricted access and have strict instructions from the top not to allow any person to access Morara including lawyers, media personnel, and any other persons,” the lawyer told journalists.
‘’The question is what type of police do we have here? They have no respect for the constitution, they have no respect for the rule of the law,” Kebaso’s lawyer added.
